The Right Time

Him: "What time is it?"
Her: "I dunno.  Do I look like a clock?"
Him: "Ummmmm…."
Her: "Don't answer that question!"

Our living room has been clock-less for years. At one point I even tried to set the clock on our dvd player. Yep…that was a complete waste of my time and I vowed never to do that again.  I’d rather just be oblivious to the time.  Maybe that’s why I’m a bit late all the time?  Or it could be because our kitchen has 4 clocks (why must every appliance come with a clock?).....BUT none of them can keep pace with each other.  So I just go with whichever one works to my advantage.

I’ve been casually shopping/stalking clocks for the living room for a while now. I found a few I liked but never quite made the price vs like it ratio. Ya know…if something is the right price (ummm...cheap) then the attractiveness of the item goes up. And a few weeks ago I stumbled upon the perfect clock for our living room. It was only 2 buck-a-roos at a local rummage sale. After inspecting it for a few minutes, I determined that it could easily get a makeover into a clock that was more “me”. And worst case scenario, I could pop out the middle and it would become a cool picture frame. Therefore, totally worth the $2 investment. Such a high roller, a baller, I know.

So I taped up the velvet (which just so happens to match my living room rug perfectly) and gave it a good dose of oil-rubbed bronze spray paint.   Then 3 coats of wall paint for the clock face (who needs numbers anyway…that’s for people who care what time it is).

At this point, I was feeling pretty pleased with my work thus far.  That is until I realized that….a smart person (obviously not me)...would have replaced the battery first to make sure the clock even worked!!  (It was made in 1970 according to the stamp on the back.) Well I must have racked up some good karma because 1 new battery + 1 old clock = success!

I tried to find some easy stick-on numbers at the craft store but…of course…no such luck.  Guess I used up all my good luck and karma already.  So on to plan B…make my own numbers using round white stickers and a printer.  I antiqued them using some left-over coffee (straight outta the pot) and applied them as accurately as possible to the clock.

Yep…I actually spun the clock hands to each hour just to make sure the numbers lined up correctly.  Even I am shocked that I took the time to do that!
