Food-ca-tion: Vegas Style

FIRST let me preface this by saying we split each dish. Even us gluttons have limits!

@ Hash House A Go Go - ordered the man vs food challenge dish - pretty sure it contained a little bit of everything on their menu!  Yes...that's a huge piece of fried chicken on top!

@ Serendipity - ordered their signature steak and eggs baguette sandwich and coffee - So good! Their mugs were sooooo large it was like drinking a whole pot o'coffee in one cup. Yep...nobody needs that much caffeine prior to hitting up the slot machines. Those loud, wild, dinging machines had nothin' on us when our spin would win. Which was pretty laughable since we were rollin' with the big dogs on the penny slots. Yep...two people should not get so excited about rackin' up 150 pennies. Unlike the dude at Wynn who drew a crowd winning at blackjack...minimum bet at his table: $1000! And what I loved most about this guy was the $1 old navy flip flops he was rockin'!

@ Wynn buffet - it was neverrrrrrrrrrrrrrr-ending - so where are the photos?  Well...my past self talked to my present self and I took my own advice.  (What past self said.)  Noted.

And I've decided that it's slightly odd that I take pictures of our food. But...I do it anyway. I'm pretty sure it's not normal to be this obsessed with food. But it's my thing.  AND before you get all judgey-mic-judgemental on me...remember we ALL have a thing.  Not sure what yours is?  Just ask me and I'll tell ya...or don't ask and I'll probably tell ya...'cause I super suck at being Minnesota nice!

However...I'm still trying to decide if my food obsession should be added to my I-need-therapy list or my possible new career as a food critic/blogger list.  I lean toward the new career list since my I-need-therapy list is already pretty long.

Jelly and ?????

While grocery shopping, we passed the peanut butter aisle.  I mentioned to the hubby that we had jelly but no peanut butter.  Ya know…just in case he was planning on making pb&j’s.  Which is so laughable ‘cause I can’t remember the last time he “cooked”.  So I’m not sure why my brain thought he would randomly want to make a sandwich or why I would voluntarily blurt out that we’re out of peanut butter.

Hubby:    I’m sure we have peanut butter in the cabinet at home.
Me:    Nope.
Hubby:    Sure we do.  You just bought some.
Me:    That was last Thursday.
Hubby:    Yeah...so there's a jar in the cabinet.
Me:    Nope.  I ate it.
Hubby:    ??????? But TODAY is only Tuesday.
Me:    It was a small jar.
Hubby:    You have a problem.
Me:    I know.

Gobble Gobble!

Thanksgiving Day:  I am thankful that I am at the top of the food chain.  I bet there's a whole bunch of turkeys wishing they could say the same thing.

Super size (me) please

Just curious...

I wonder if the guy at the next table will mind if I steal one of his french fries???  Seriously...it will only take me a millisecond to swipe one and he won't even notice it's gone.  Unless I get caught in the act.  Ummmm...can you say awkward?!?!!!

Cookies or beer?

Food should be simple.  The ingredient list should not read like a scientific drug paper.  I should be able to…at very minimum…pronounce what I am eating.  Butylated Hydroxyanisole…what the heck is that?!?!   Sounds o’ so yummy…ehhh?

Hey hubby…can you make me some butylated hydroxyanisole for dinner?  I’ve just been craving it alllllll day!

Also, I heard someone say that if your grandma wouldn’t recognize it as food…don’t eat it.  Sounds like a good plan.  Well…unless of course…granny is a scientist at one of those processed food manufacturers.  Then you might be S.O.L.  Ever wonder why granny's cookies were sooooo amazing and she refused to share her "secret recipe"??? Hummmm...just a thought.

Anyway...my grandma likes beer so that must mean it's good for me.  O'yeah...score...lucky me!  Thanks grandma!  Beer is way better than chemical cookies any day!

What's a biscoff anyway?

The jury is still out. I'm not quite convinced that airline cookies aren't just individually packaged dog biscuits. But I'm more troubled by the fact that I decided to eat them anyway.

Photo Day 218: To the loo (5.6.11)

Photo Day 218:  To the loo (5.6.11)
Calories in.
Calories out.
3500 calorie deficit = 1 pound.

What I want to know is who cares how many calories are in just one pound!! C'mon..tell me something useful. Ya know...tell me how I can go to sleep and wake up 20 pounds lighter!  Now that would be useful information!  Although I'm guessing that it might require some kind of 6 month coma.  And the risk/reward analysis on the coma is probably not worth the 20 pounds.  But 40 pounds...hummm...maybe.  Still pondering that one.

Anyway...I'd like to meet the person who only wants to lose 1 pound. To them I say go eat some Mexican and then go spend some time in the loo. That should do the trick.  In fact, you'll probably emerge 2 pounds lighter.

Oh noooo. It appears I have been officially corrupted by the hubby if I'm writing potty humor. Hummmmm....adding this to my I-need-therapy list.

My new food obsession is shredded coleslaw mix.  It's better than lettuce in my book.  It doesn't get soggy and it lasts forever.  And the best part is the cabbage/carrot mix has only 20 calories per 1.5 cups!  It's the equivalent of eating air!  And that is important to know since I've become a walking calorie encyclopedia. Seriously. Try to stump me. I dare you. I triple dog dare you. How’s that for some confidence in my I-retain-stupid-facts-in-my-brain skills!

Photo Day 217: Splendid tap water (5.5.11)

Photo Day 217: Splendid tap water (5.5.11)
I’m not a fan of drinking water. If it were up to me, I’d survive solely on sweet tea, coffee, and coke. But the vision of what that would do to my in-nerds keeps me downing at least 80 ounces of the boring h2o daily. Seriously I only drink water because I fear that my organs will start looking like the stuff pulled out of a hair-clogged bathtub drain. Which is quite possibly the most disgusting sludge ever.

So each morning I consume 20oz of water in between sips of my caffeine-laced coffee or tea. Today was a snooze button day so I opted for coffee with my water this morning. After making it half way through my water and a few sips into my coffee I couldn’t take it anymore. Both tasted like crap! My sleepy brain started trying to figure out if our water pipes were contaminated overnight and was it possible that I burned the coffee??

Then it hit me. That tiny little yellow packet of splendid goodness. Yep…I sprinkled it into my water and then used a spoon to stir my coffee.  Genius I tell you. Top of the class!

Photo Day 200: Mashed pot-craving! (4.18.11)

Photo Day 200:  Mashed pot-craving! (4.18.11)
A downside to living in a small town in the northern Midwest:  fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and sweet tea are hard to find. And don’t go looking for them at 9pm on a Sunday night. Yep…I should have known better. KFC was our only option. And it was closed!!!

So now I’m boycotting our one and only fried chicken joint! I’m not giving ‘em any more of my dinero. Only problem with this plan…it’s a day later and I still NEED mashed potatoes! Yes those precious carbs are required for my survival. Seriously.

Therefore I had to do the unthinkable. I cooked some spuds myself. Take that…you early-to-bed-KFC!

Photo Day 119: Going bananas

Photo Day 119:  Going bananas.
Recent conversation with the hubby…
Me:  I’m going to the store…you need anything?
Hubby:  We need more bananas.

And this morning I noticed that the bananas remaining from the last batch I bought him are now brown. 3 brown bananas. Hummmm…the hubby recently learned that my banana bread recipe calls for 3 brown bananas. Coincidence??? I don’t think so.

Photo Day 85: Not traditional

Photo Day 85:  Not traditional.  So my family's tradition of lasagna and garlic bread doesn't really fit into the traditional Christmas Eve dinner category...most people have ham or turkey.  Unless, of course, you are from Minnesota.

Anyone care for slopping joes and wild rice soup on Christmas (yes...served together!!)?  Or how about some lutefisk?

I'm sticking with my lasagna!

Photo Day 71: Brownies for breakfast

Photo Day 71: Brownies for breakfast.  Seriously...who decided holiday potluck parties at work are a good idea!  And what was I thinking when I signed up to bring dessert.  Such a recipe for disaster when I'm trying to lose a few pounds.  Between eating the brownie batter last night (yes I know it's bad for me since it has raw eggs but whatever...it's sooooo yummy) and having a brownie or two for breakfast, looks like I'll be spending all weekend on the treadmill.  Next year I'm signing up to bring the plates!

Photo Day 68: Impossible addiction

Photo Day 68:  Impossible addiction.  I overheard this guy telling his friends that it's almost impossible to get addicted to things that are good for you.  Yep...I'm thinking there will never be a need for recovery meetings for a "broccoli addiction."

Photo Day 56: Turkey Day!

Photo Day 56:  Turkey Day!  My first turkey EVER!  And, well, maybe my last.  I think they should sell those things either with or without the “extra” parts.  I’m still traumatized by the “extra” parts that I had to find and pull out of that bird!

Photo Day 28: Tuna = Meow

Photo Day 28:  Tuna = Meow.  Decided to take a tuna fish wrap for lunch.  Cracked open the can of tuna and my sleepy cats came-a-running!    And so I began my morning to a chorus of meow, meow, meow, meow.  Of course I gave them some....I'm such a sucker for their cuteness!

Photo Day 1: Breakfast

Photo Day 1:  Breakfast.  Like I said about loving a good 'ol fashion routine - eating breakfast is now one in our house.  Every day I make the exact same thing - eggs.  The hubby likes scrambled eggs with cheese.  I make an egg sandwich with 1 egg, 1 slice of cheese, ketchup (Heinz, of course), on a toasted cinnamon raisin english muffin.  Yum!!!!  (This is a step up from my younger years of eating Teddy Grahams and a Coke for breakfast.  Or my dad letting me eat ice cream as a kid when I refused all other options...)

Maybe I'll take a photo of the finished product one day.  LOL!  Heck I have 364 more to go.....
